Items shipped from the Brandmerch warehouse are shipped in recycled and reused packaging.

For each individual item purchased, we will include a sustainability rating for the manufacturer. This rating will be based on two things:

1. Working Conditions –  We will look at the manufacturer’s standard for working conditions across the supply chain. These include policies and practices on child or forced labour, worker safety & freedom of association, gender equality and payment of a living wage.

2. Eco-Friendliness – We inspect each manufacturer’s policies to address energy use and carbon emissions, their impacts on water usage, and chemical use and disposal. Any certifications will be listed.

It is our responsibility to be 100% transparent about where our products are manufactured and what they’re made of. We believe this information will allow our customers to choose more sustainable options for their brands.

According to the International Transport Forum (ITF), it is estimated that international trade-related freight transport currently accounts for around 30% of all transport related CO2 emissions from fuel combustion, and more than 7% of global emissions. Projections based on the ITF’s International Freight Model foresee an increase of trade-related freight transport emissions by a factor of 3.9 to 2050.

Airplanes emit 500 grams of CO2 per metric ton of freight per km of transportation, while transport ships emit only 10 to 40 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

Most items we produce are being transported overseas and in the past we’ve favored plane transpiration due to the speediness. However, in 2021, we will begin favoring forms of transportation such as train or boat.  While these methods may take longer, they are more cost effective and could cut down the emissions up to 50 times.

For us to be more sustainable we need help from our clients. Whether that means planning ahead for your orders to cut down on shipping CO2 emissions or budgeting in the extra cost for compostable packaging. Ultimately, it is on our clients to choose the more sustainable option, and it’s on us to educate them on what their options are.

We have made it a standard to include alternative, sustainable options in each of our decks along with information on how each order could be made more sustainable. We feel that the more we educate ourselves and our clients, the better equipped our clients will be to make better choices.
